As stated by Kristian Hentelä, Gasmet’s Product Engineer, non-specific technologies such as PIDs (photoionization detectors) respond to a fairly large number of different gases but do not provide much insight into what the true composition of the gas sample is. As the spectrum of possible gases in a container is vast, measuring each component separately is not feasible. Without prior knowledge about what is in the sample, it is difficult to know which components should be measured. This would be prohibitively expensive and time-consuming.
