Our certification is for 0 to 5 \u00b5g\/m3.\u00a0<strong>This is a new world record, making our CMM future-proof for declining emission limits<\/strong>!\u201d, says\u00a0<strong>Matti Haapala<\/strong>, Application Development Manager at Gasmet.<\/p>\n<p>On the basis of the assessment and the ranges required for compliance with EU Directives, Gasmet\u2019s CMM is considered suitable for use on\u00a0<strong>waste incineration<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>large coal-fired combustion plant applications<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.csagroupuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/MC17033201.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to see the new CMM MCERTS EN15267 QAL 1 certification<\/a>\u00a0with the new certification ranges.<\/p>\n<h2>Final Agreement on LCP BREF<\/h2>\n<p>The Commission Implementing Decision\u00a0<strong>(EU) 2017\/1442<\/strong>\u00a0established best available techniques (BAT) conclusions, under\u00a0<strong>Directive 2010\/75\/EU<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>large combustion plants (LCPs)<\/strong>. LCPs are combustion plants with total rated thermal input equal to or greater than 50 MW.<\/p>\n<p>The BAT conclusion was published on 17th August 2017 in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX:32017D1442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Official Journal of the EU<\/a>\u00a0and will come into effect with a four years transition period.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong>\u00a0LCP BREF (<a href=\"http:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?qid=1502972300769&amp;uri=CELEX:32017D1442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Large Combustion Plant Best Available Technology Reference<\/a>\u00a0document)\u00a0<\/strong>includes new\u00a0<strong>BAT-associated emission levels (BAT-AELs)<\/strong>\u00a0e.g. for mercury. This happens for the first time at the EU level and helps national authorities to lower the environmental impact of around 3500 LCPs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new\u00a0<strong>ELVs (Emission limit values)<\/strong>, set by the national authorities, will be based on BAT-associated emission levels. The BAT AEL-ranges will be the reference for setting the ELVs, taking into account fuel type, combustion technology and other relevant conditions.\u201d, says Matti Haapala.<\/p>\n<h2>BAT BREF setting\u00a0new monitoring requirements<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the new BAT conclusions,\u00a0<strong>Hg should be measured continuously<\/strong>\u00a0in the LCPs equal to or greater than 300MWth. Also,\u00a0<strong>ammonia (NH3)<\/strong>\u00a0needs to be measured continuously if SCR (selective catalytic reduction) and\/or SNCR (selective non-catalytic reduction) are used.\u201d, says Matti Haapala.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow it\u2019s time to start preparing for the future requirements. In few years, combustion plants need to meet stricter emission limits as described in the LCP BREF document. This, in a way, sets requirements for\u00a0<strong>the manufacturers of emission monitoring systems<\/strong>\u00a0as lower concentrations of gases needs to be measured.
