Since 2010 Gasmet FTIR gas analyzers have been used in Lithium-Ion battery research applications worldwide. Even if electrical cars are environmentally friendly, modern batteries still pose safety threats. If an overheated Lithium-Ion battery catches a fire, potentially poisonous fumes are released, including Hydrogen Fluoride and high concentrations of electrolytes. Also phosporous compounds such as PF5 and POF3 may be formed. Gasmet analyzers help to develop safe use, recycling, environmental safety, and further generations of modern battery technology.

The advanced dilution properties of the Sycos-P sampling system were originally developed for the safety measurements of damaged Lithium-Ion batteries. The system enables the use of a single instrument for the automated analysis of undiluted raw gas as well as the analysis of diluted sample gas – during a single experiment.
